Treating Wrinkles with Home Remedies

Finding the right products and treatment for wrinkles can be both time-consuming and expensive, which is why so many people are also looking for effective home remedies.

While it sounds simple enough, whipping something up at home isn’t as easy as it sounds, and you could end up making your skin look worse.

Popular home remedies for wrinkles

Below are a few of the most popular home remedies for wrinkles:

Citrus juice or oil

There a number of people who claim that a fresh squeeze of orange or lemon juice works wonders on wrinkles due to the fruits’ high antioxidant content. Unfortunately, the ingredients in citrus fruits will sensitise your skin more than help it. The juice and oil can also make your skin more sensitive to sunlight.

Facial oil

Facial oils are one of the better home remedies for your skin, with pure oil or olive and coconut oil being a good source of omega fatty acids, moisture and antioxidants. Facial oils are great for dry skin but aren’t the best solution for wrinkles. It’s also important to note that essential oils should never be used on your skin. Wrinkle relaxer specialists, MIRA Clinic, shared that the negative effects of essential oils on the skin may only appear years later as your skin is rather good at hiding irritation.

Egg whites

Another popular home remedy is to use egg whites to tighten your skin. Albumin, which is the ingredient found in egg whites is said to temporarily constrict the skin in order to give it a smoother appearance. The issue is that this remedy is temporary and albumin can irritate the skin, which is what leads to signs of ageing.

Aloe Vera

This natural plant ingredient does have several great benefits that include hydration and the addition of antioxidants. However, there isn’t a lot of scientific evidence that confirms it helps with wrinkles. If anything, Aloe Vera will only make your skin look plumper and smoother temporarily.

Banana masks

A little mashed up banana mixed with juice or yoghurt is said to be a great face mask. The potassium in the bananas is meant to hydrate the skin while the antioxidants will reduce any signs of ageing. Even though the mask will offer some benefits, it won’t make any massive difference to wrinkles over the long term. Plus, it’s definitely one of the messier and stickier home remedies.

While there’s certainly nothing wrong with using the ingredients in your kitchen cabinet to treat your skin, most home remedies are temporary and won’t have any long-lasting effects on your skin. And there is always the chance that your skin will react badly to certain products, leaving you with irritation and skin damage that will need to be treated with additional products anyway.

At the end of the day, it’s best to use products and treatments that are backed by research and have been tested. These products will not only give you much better results but you won’t be wasting time and money on ineffective solutions.
